Hail. To great code.

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN · ARTS + WEB · FROM THE AGENCY ARCHIVE, 2014–2024
STORY

A work of art. Painted in code.

The Arts at Michigan is the primary arts portal for undergraduates at the University of Michigan. Run by a student staff, one of its main purposes is to keep campus informed of arts events — both at the university and around Ann Arbor.

But over the years, the codebase had fallen into disrepair. Legacy programming languages, outdated methods, impenetrable logic, and multiple vendors of event information had left the main events calendar completely broken. They needed help quickly.

Punch created an extensible, maintainable rewrite of the events calendar and parser. What was once a complicated, broken set of code became a modular, well-documented piece of software — easy to maintain and flexible enough to handle a changing, multi-vendor landscape. Now, arts events would never be lost again.
